Very often advertisements that had the appearance of news appeared in the Pantagraph. For instance, this advertisement advised women they could save money by using "Solvite" a "gasoline soap" to do their dry cleaning in a tub at home. Solvite was available at the drug store and could be dissolved in two gallons of gasoline for cleaning purposes.
No mention is made of how to remove the smell of gasoline from the clothing. The printing on the packaging isn't clear enough to tell how the customer was to avoid spontaneous combustion. Especially when many houses were still illuminated with gas lamps!
