Mayor Jones and Police Chief Jones were in agreement -- a gymnasium for the police officers was a necessity in 1915. As we have seen in previous articles, criminals were run down on foot and the police force had but one car in 1915. Chief Jones observed that most of his men were young and in tolerable shape, but after being on the force for a short time, they were breathless after chasing a crook. The chief favored a handball court, which could be created with few funds.
There were no tangible plans for a gymnasium, but all officers were hopeful of some progress on this idea.
