Nancy Bringham, the daughter of William Bringham of 508 W Washington, the owner of The China Store, aspired to be a star and in December of 1915 she responded to the Photoplay Magazine's "Beauty & Brains" contest. Photoplay claimed that it would spare no efforts in making the 11 winners of the contest stars.
No further information could be found about Nancy's future, but she was not the only one in her family with theatrical stars in her eyes. Her brother Lawrence was listed as an actor in the 1920 census. He had earlier served in the medical corp suring WWI. In 1922 he accepted a position with a stock company in Indiana. Shortly after accepting that position he was killed in a freak elevator accident in his Indiana hotel. In his obituary only his surviving brothers are listed, leading one to believe that Nancy died between 1915 and 1922.
Another girl was luckier than Nancy. Delight Evans of Fort Wayne Indiana enjoyed the excitement of being one of the winners of the contest. Delight later became a writer for Photoplay.
