Frank Warner, August 21, 1873

The report of Frank Warner's death on the railroad is notable for the fact that it is the first time the railroad is criticized by the Pantagraph for the lack of safety in the operation of the railroad. The first part of this story is a little fuzzy, but Frank met his death when a handhold he was using broke away from the train, causing him to fall under the moving train. There was some confusion as to his identity, but it was eventually found that he had been working in McLean County for some time and that his family was from Dawson, IL. Despite this, Frank was buried through the charitable actions of the YMCA in Bloomington. Frank was just 21 years old when he died and had been working for the railroad for just nine months. An inquest was held, as reflected in the second part of this clipping (which is of considerably better quality.)
