Daniel Curran, McDonough County

Daniel Curran was the employee of Thomas Bennett of Colchester, Illinois. Mr. Bennett had good opinion of Daniel as a studious young man who had over come a bad temper. Daniel was ambitious to obtain a good education and "will therefore be able to enter a school of higher education, where I have promised him he shall go after this winter term at our district school." The Macomb Journal does record the existence of a Daniel J. Curran from Colchester who was attending Bushnell College and working as a school teacher. No articles could be found tracing his transformation into an attorney, but later there was an attorney named Daniel J. Curran who practiced in McDonough County. The Journal is only digitized up to 1909, so no later notices can be found.

I want to believe that this Daniel J. Curran is the same young man whom Mr. Bennett admired and sent to Bushnell College.

He married in Burlington, Iowa to Alice Minteer. They lived with her parents in 1910 but later had their own home in Macomb and two children.

Another Daniel F. Curran lived in Macomb, who was a member of the Typographical Union, who had been ejected from that august body for conduct unbecoming a member.

A family tree for the Curran family suggests that Daniel Curran died in Arizona, but no death date was known for him.
